One of the guitars I built last winter has developed two small (less than 1") cracks in the back. The body is some of the Zootmans' flamed African mahogany, and the cracks are out in the middle of nowhere. Right now the humidity is under 10% in Reno and that is probably the cause.
I assume that first you glue a little cross grain diamond on the inside (like on the tops) then fill the crack with CA and rebuff. Does anyone have a better technique? Is my sequence correct? Better ideas? Anyone? Thanks for all the help you guys provide. Mikey

First thing I would do-before working on it-is get the humidity up. I can't imagine a guitar having a very long life if it's kept in such low humidity. I don't have a lot of repair experience but if it were me, after the guitar is properly humidified, I would make sure the crack is clean then work some HHG into it then reinforce with diamonds.
